![]() Whilst Legend of Mana is fun to play and certainly looks the part, it’s clear that some aspects of its design do feel a bit dated today. The most recent release has been Legend of Mana, with the PlayStation RPG seeing a variety of impressive enhancements to bring it into the modern age.ĭoes it hold up well twenty-two years on from its original release or should it have stayed back in 1999? Well… it’s a bit of both, really. That’s just scratching the surface too, with plenty of other titles having released and also due to launch in the near future – heck, the first six entries in the Final Fantasy series are getting ‘Pixel Perfect’ remasters soon, so it shows that the company’s back catalogue still has its strengths. Legend of Mana will be released for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on June 24.Square Enix have been on a winning streak with their remastered releases as of late, with classic titles such as SaGa Frontier, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, and Romancing SaGa 3 all seeing new releases on modern consoles. The game features enchanted instruments that can be imbued with the power of one of eight Elemental Spirits and then used in battle to cast powerful magic spells. Each one has a different effect on your movement speed in battle and the amount that your stats increases when you level up. There are 11 different types of weapons for you to master. Using these newfound abilities will unlock devastating Special Techniques, with different ones to discover for each type of weapon. New Abilities are learned through performing basic actions such as jumping and guarding. You can go all-out in combat without having to worry about losing progress. Emerge victorious from a battle and your HP will be fully restored, and if you perish, you can choose continue and give it another shot from the very same area of the map. You must defeat all the monsters in an area before you can proceed to the next one. The events that are available and the order in which they can be completed will change depending on your Land Creation.īattles will begin when you approach the monsters that live in the lands of Fa’Diel. Each of the game’s 68 events is a self-contained story in its own right – some are standalone tales, while others form part of one the three main story arcs. The game’s story progresses after you complete events. However, when placed upon the World Map, an artifact will miraculously transform into a town or forest, cave or mountain, bringing with it the people who live there and all their memories, as if plucked from a place lost to both time and the physical dimensions. Said to have been crafted by sages in ancient times, artifacts are mystical objects that contain arcane power. Place your artifacts as you see fit, and build a world that’s totally unique to you. Where you place an artifact, and the lands next to it, will determine the Elemental Spirits that live there, the strength of its monsters, and even the items that are available in its shops. Doing so will create the towns and dungeons of Fa’Diel, known as “lands.” Each land has its own Land Level and Mana Levels. When you speak to the inhabitants of the game’s locations and complete events, you might be rewarded with “artifacts” that can be placed on the World Map. What kind of tale will unfold?
